Background: John Sexton, His Curse, His Mates

SOB Aristocrat boys

John Sexton is a central character of Soul of the Beast and the person who tells the story. He was born into an aristocratic British family and grew up with all the benefits of wealth and social status. His life was perfect until the Curse began.

The Curse. One by one, the adult men of the Sexton family die mysteriously. After the last Sexton adult man dies, the sons die on the first day of their eighteenth year.  John Sexton is the next to turn eighteen. With his doom just months away, John attempts to escape his fate by sailing to South Africa and hiding among the gold fields.sob-goldmines

David is John’s mate and the son of a poor South African farmer. He has a claim in the gold fields near John’s. When miners attempt to kill John, David fights them off and saves John’s life. The two become mates and work their claims together. When John sails to Australia, David goes along to protect him.  sob-thuggees

Mick Kelly is another of John’s mates. He is the son of an Irish convict sentenced to ten years of forced labor in Australia.  Mick’s mother and father both die, and he is forced to live on the streets of Derby. Mick teaches himself to read and, with his street smarts, becomes a reporter for the local newspaper. Mick says, “A good reporter knows where the bodies are buried.”

What is Destiny?

Destiny plays a large and subtle part in the Soul of the Beast, Destiny is the invisible force that controls history  and, through a series of preordained events, leads to  inevitable outcomes. The words Destiny and Fate are used interchangeably but have a subtle difference. With Destiny, events and outcomes are determined by the inherent nature of the universe  and “fixed in stone”.  With Fate, events and outcomes are determined by the actions of people or a force, such as a god, and can be changed. Fate in ancient times was represented by the image of three women weaving the  lives of humans into a fabric.

What is the Tower of Babel?

The second book in the Beast series, Awakening the Beast, talks about an ancient building called the Tower of Babel. This comes from the Bible and the book of Genesis 11:1-9. Below are excerpts from Wikipedia that explain more about the tower:

WTB towerbabel10

WHAT IS THE TOWER OF BABEL?

The story of the city (and tower) of Babel is recorded in Genesis 11:1-9. Everyone on earth spoke the same language. … People [built] a city and a tower with its top in the sky, to make a name for themselves… God … remarked that as one people with one language, nothing that they sought would be out of their reach. God … [made the people speak] in multiple different languages). Unable to] understand each other … the people drifted apart and ) scattered …over the face of the earth… they stopped building the city. What Is A Jackal?

The Jackal plays an important part in Awakening The Beast. However, the animals in the story are fiction. Real jackals are much smaller and none of them are pure black or have blue eyes. Below are excerpts from Wikipedia about real jackals.

ATBjackal1The jackal is a small- to medium-sized …[dog-like animal. There are] three species: the black-backed jackal, the side-striped jackal of sub-Saharan Africa, and the golden jackal of northern Africa … Continue reading

Are Dragons Real?

chinese dragonAre Dragons Real?

The immediate response from most of us is NO.

st_george2Then why are Dragon myths in  cultures all around the world? There are the Chinese dragons and the English story of St. George and the Dragon. The Bible talks about a dragon in the book of Revelation.  The aborigines of Australia have a verbal history about a dragon like creature that they hunted to extinction. Native cultures in North, Central and South America have legends of dragons. The most famous example is the Aztec god, Quetzalcoatl.

Dinosaurs are dragon like creatures. Could dragon myths be a cultural memory about dinosaurs?  For people to remember dinosaurs, dinosaurs and people would have to exist at the same time. Scientists tell us that’s impossible because dinosaurs  were extinct long before man walked the earth. Dinosaurs lived up until 250 million years ago. Man has only been on the earth for 5 million years.

The experts are wrong about this, and it’s easy to prove.Because DINOSAURS ARE ALIVE TODAY.  These living dinosaurs are so familiar that we don’t recognize them for what they are. Below is a partial list of living dinosaurs with their pictures.  Look at each picture and ask yourself, could this be a living dinosaur? The answer for each is obviously yes, and the fossil record confirms it.  Continue reading

SOBMates1

WHAT ARE MATES?

In Soul of the Beast, John and Mick call each other mates. What does that mean?  Being mates means you are more than friends. You are  brothers who will never desert each other and die for each other if necessary

SOBMates4How do people become mates? By going through extreme situations with other persons. For men that can be fighting side by side in wars and battles. Men and women become mates when they go through the challenges of married life together. These include disease, money struggles, aging, and the raising and sometimes death of children.

Any comments? I’d like to hear them. You can post them below.

Sacrifice

Animal (and human) sacrifices  have been a terrible reality of many cultures for thousands of years. Below are excerpts from Wikipedia about the subject.

Animal sacrifice is the ritual killing of an animal as part of a religion. It is practiced by adherents of many religions as a means of appeasing a god or gods or changing the course of nature.  Animal sacrifice has [been a part of] almost all cultures, from the Hebrews to the Greeks and Romans … Ancient Egyptians [and] Aztecs.ATB Sacrifice

[Human sacrifice has been practiced by many cultures. The reasons include:

Idol worship.]

death of a king, high priest or great leader; the sacrificed [humans] were supposed to serve or accompany the deceased leader in the next life…

…times of natural disaster. Droughts, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. were seen as a sign of anger or displeasure by deities, and sacrifices were supposed to lessen the [god's anger]…

The Aztecs practiced human sacrifice on an unusually large scale; a sacrifice [was] made every day to aid the sun in rising… the dedication of the great temple at Tenochtitlán [required the sacrificing of thousands [of people]….

The Phoenicians of Carthage were reputed to practice child sacrifice…, there is archaeological evidence of large numbers of children’s skeletons buried … with sacrificial animals.
