AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES
Wow! Exhilarating read! In my possibly feeble attempt to grasp the AMAZING of this book, I shall do a simple yet informative Pros and Cons list.
Pros:
-Hee Zhong is a badass. For real. He is the toughest character I’ve seen in a while. Ten points for you, Hee Zhong! You go, Hee Zhong!
-THE SUSPENSE. There are many moments where John and his comrades are almost killed and I viciously flipped the pages, eager to find out who lived and died.
-Peaceful monks that will not hesitate to turn your memories into stew. ‘Nuff said.
-The last few pages. There was so much intense action that kept me on the edge of my seat. I would buy the book just for the last few pages. WOW.
-The fact that a sequel, Awakening the Beast, is coming out later this year. YASSS
Cons:
-In a split second, Hee Zhong turned from a humble, shy student into a kickass that knows every nook and cranny of the world. His badassery partially makes up for that, however.
-Sometimes John seemed so… external that it sounded like the book was being told in the third person.
-When I first read the introduction for the character (view spoiler), I thought about what a great character the person would be. About ten pages later, said character was killed off.
I recommend Soul of the Beast for anyone looking for a quick, fast-paced adventure read. Simply wow!”

A captivating and suspenseful quick read. The ending came as a surprise after I incorrectly predicted a final scenario. Although it is not a regular genre for me, I am hooked for its sequal. The book would appeal to ninja-type gamers with its fast-moving action set in the intrigue of the Far East.

I recently read a book titled “Soul of the Beast” by Wes Phelan. Although I am a young 71, it felt like I was on the voyage with the two main characters, John and Mick. It was well written and descriptive enough to make one feel compelled to turn the page to see what was going to happen next. I look forward to the “Awakening of the Beast.” Any age group would enjoy this book.

I could not put this book down. An easy read, great storyline & interesting time period. This book is very well thought out and has a great literary context between good and evil. My husband liked it very much too. Looking forward to the sequel. Would be a good read for teenagers and adults alike.
